Literary Writing

writing

Most of Dr. Streufert’s writings have been scientific, including about 500 Journal and other technical publications as well as ten science books (details about the scientific work will be provided later in this website). Beyond his scientific focus, several articles and (to date) four completed literary books were written for the general public. In addition to articles in magazines and newspapers, Siegfried wrote many short stories, some of them autobiographic in nature, others fictional. Autobiographical stories are found in two books for the general public: Arch of Fire: A Child in Nazi Germany (Aina Kail Books), published in the German language as Drachenwind (Ostsee Verlag) and America! America? (Aina Kai Books). These two books, taken together, sequentially describe Siegfried’s experiences from 1939 at age 5 through his life in Amarillo and Dallas, Texas (1959).

Arch of Fire reflects what life was like in Nazi Germany. Siegfried’s family was persecuted during the Nazi regime (Siegfried’s father was murdered by the Nazis in a concentration camp). In addition, they experienced nearly daily and nightly bombing by allied planes. The book America! America? describes his life after the end of the Second Word War in both Germany and the United States. A third literary book by Siegfried Streufert entitled The Katia Stories again presents Siegfried as a story-teller, yet the stories in this volume are fictional. Some of them will surprise you, others are whimsical, and yet others are intended to be thought provoking. The fourth book for the general public Rhythm of Life contains poems that Siegfried wrote over a period of seventy years.  Two additional books are now in press or in preparation.

A few sample stories and poems from all four books follow below. (All of the stories and poems included on this website (below) are protected under international copyright).
